  • More Than Skin Deep: Why nutrition should be considered part of your skincare routine?

Did you know our skin is a two-sided organ? Our skin is Influenced by both external and internal factors. While many preach the benefits of topical skincare products as the best way to keep your skin healthy and youthful, this is only half the answer. Traditional products such as skin cleansers, exfoliants, serums, and moisturizers, are a one-sided approach to holistic skincare.
  • Understanding Aging

What happens to our faces during the aging process?

As we age, our faces and our skin undergo a number of changes. By understanding these changes, we can get a better sense of what we can control, what we can’t, and what we, at Violet Hour Skin, can improve and what we simply cannot. In our next blog, we’ll be discussing the Pro Aging Movement and how understanding these changes can help us to continue to love our faces and accept the changes that will happen over time.

  • Do you know your ABC's?

You’ve probably heard about all of the lovely products out there with various vitamins in them but do you know what they’re doing and why you really need them? In this week’s blog, we’re doing a deep dive on vitamins as actives in skincare.

While many vitamins are used in skincare, in this blog we’re only going to talk about the essentials. The 3 vitamins that are so hardworking I recommend them for everyone over the age of 30 (and 2 of them after 20). These are Vitamin A, Vitamin B3, and Vitamin C.

  • Back to Basics

What do we mean when we say back to basics? When it comes to your skincare, let’s think about the very basic parts of your ritual - cleansing, moisturizing & protecting -  from a Corneotherapeutic reproach. It all comes down to your barrier defense systems when working towards healthy skin.

Is your skin always a little red or pink? Is it tight or does it always feel a little dry? Does it look dull? Does it feel a little rough or is it flakey? It might be time to do an elimination diet for your skin and strip everything back to the bare basics for a month or 2. Not only does this mean paring back multiple products but it also means making sure those staples are not full of barrier damaging ingredients. Let’s dive in!

  • Why Ingredients Matter?

Now that you have a better understanding of your skin’s first three lines of barrier defense I’m going to try to explain as simply as possible why we avoid certain ingredients from a Corneotherapeutic approach to skinCARE.

The bottom line on ingredients is that you want, not just biodegradable ingredients, but those that are biodegradable in your skin, those that are recognized by your skin or biomimetic and serve your skin cells.

I don’t like to encourage the chemophobia (chemical shaming) that a lot of brands in the marketplace like to tout - everything is made up of chemicals and it’s the dose that makes the poison. There are no bad or good chemicals but there is a difference between ingredients that have a bio-available function in the skin and those that don’t so please keep that in mind as I go through the ingredients that I recommend avoiding or minimizing in your skincare.

  • What is Corneotherapy?

As a certifiable skin nerd, I spend most of my time learning about skin. It’s an amazing part of our bodies and a microcosm of functions and activity. It’s the organ that we see every day, shows our emotions, is a window to our health, alerts us to dangers we touch or ingest, protects us from the environment and keeps our insides inside!

It is this constant learning that sent me on a path to becoming a Corneotherapist. A path to learning as much as I can about skin histology; to learn how it functions on a cellular level which means that I can now work with your skin to heal & repair it so that you can have beautiful, healthy skin that behaves itself. It’s now my mission in life to unlock skin health for everyone. At every age and every stage.

To put it simply; Corneotherapy is a scientifically holistic approach to skinCARE that works to care for, protect, rebuild, and honor your skin’s barrier defense systems allowing your skin to flourish.
